Sleeping Lion roars for Fanshawe at Doncaster

Sleeping Lion came from last to first to claim top honours at the William Hill Mallard Handicap.

The cost of james Fanshawe has been a 4-1 shot in the hands of Jamie Spencer and has been dropped out in the rear of this area for a lot of the extended competition.
Spencer was in front a furlong later and coaxed his bracket into a prominent place entering the final two furlongs.
Charles Kingsley temporarily looked a threat , however Sleeping Lion found contested and was ultimately well at the top at the line – scoring some shade cosily by three-quarters of a span.
The failure of the race was Simon Crisford favourite Saroog, that would finish only fifth.
Fanshawe said:”We were just getting a bit frustrated with him running in big handicaps. He did not get from the Ebor, therefore him ran in York in the two-mile race and he never got to it.
“Today with a smaller area and he was able to acquire a position. He likes to be held up, but he needs a bit of time to get rolling. He picked up at time today.
“I’m not sure where we’ll go with him. We are going to see exactly what the handicapper does. He’s a really nice horse and he has shown it today.”
