After dropping two of three to the Padres over the 18, the Phillies will attempt to rebound tonight. To be able to get back on track, Philadelphias ace Aaron Nola (11-3, 3.56 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) will take the mound following a brilliant performance in his last outing in which he allowed just 1 run on three hits in an 11-1 demolition of the Chicago Cubs. The Red Sox have been confronted by the 26-year-old right-hander just once in his career, which arrived a little when he yielded a run on four hits in eight innings of work, resulting in a loss to the World Series champs.
After Chris Sale was closed down for the time due to inflammation of his left 28, Even the Red Sox starting rotation is in a small quandary. Therefore, Boston will send reliever/starter Brian Johnson (1-1, 6.45 ERA, 2.01 WHIP) into the bump tonight with the hope that he can undergo a few innings without too much harm. In his last start, Johnson pitched two-plus innings where he allowed one earned run over Cleveland. Manager Alex Cora was cautious with Johnson this season limiting his begins before the relief corps happens over. The longest Johnson has gone this year was five innings against the Yankees when he surrendered one run (none earned) on four hits in an 8-7 loss back in June.
The MLB chances are currently revealing the Red Sox as slight favorites in that one, despite Philadelphia pitching matchup. Much of this has to do with Bostons prolific offense which has plated a mean of 5.8 runs per game, trailing only the Yankees in this category. Twenty-two-year-old Rafael Devers is currently punishing the ball this season using a .332 batting average, 27 home runs, and 101 RBI which makes him an MVP candidate. Devers lit the Orioles pitchers on Sunday if he went 4-for-5 using a home series, a pair of doubles and four RBI to lead the Sox into a victory.
Their record is evidence that pitching is overriding in baseball as good as the Boston lineup is. All season has plagued them although the Phillies offense is fair. Brian Johnson is more suited to mid-relief than he is a starting pitcher and also I really dont find this heading the way of Boston tonight. Though Johnson does give three decent innings to them, their bullpen was suspect, since they failed to re-sign Craig Kimbrel from last year and they have been haunted by the absence of a nearer. I will take the price on the Phillies in my MLB picks and keep cashing these tickets!
Last rating: Phillies 7 — Red Sox 4
