A header in Macauley Bonne (57) put the visitors back in front within 120 minutes, however Aleksandar Mitrovic (63) smashed the ball into the roof of the net from close range to set up a grandstand finish in the London derby.
The hosts search for a winner intensified through fourteen minutes of and an epic late prevent by Charltonkeeper Dillon Phillips averted Bobby home a winner.
Charlton appeared a surprise in the opening markets in south west London, using the Jonny Williams revealing a handful for Harry Arter and an strategy catching the Whites off-guard.
The hosts did settle following a start but struggled to create openings and were denied a penalty when Mitrovic grappled with Tom Lockyer inside the 18 yard box.
Chris Solly led into Gallaghers path A searching cross from makeshift left wing-back Jake Forster-Caskey, and he struck a fourth target that was tidy to place Charlton ahead.
