Jermain Defoe exclusive: I want Rangers stay

Jermain Defoe, by his own admission loves scoring goals. This is why he wants to remain in Rangers, why he wishes to play in his 40s, and also Steven Gerrard has heard not to bother inquiring if he needs a break…
On the eve of his birthday, Defoe did exactly what he has been performing for almost two years. He in turn sent top of their Scottish Premiership ahead of rivals Celtic, and watched a hat-trick.
It took Defoe into 12 goals this season, and prompted Rangers fans to split in the chant which has become common place among the terraces at Ibrox.
I recall the first time I shopped for Rangers, the fans began singing the tune and I talked to my mum afterwards. She was just likewow, Defoe informs Sky Sports News.
Getting to know the man is well worthwhile. Defoe was awarded an OBE in November a year ago because of his dedication and contribution to football and charity. The honour was also dedicated by him to his friend Bradley Lowery, who passed out from a sort of cancer this past year.
Manager Steven Gerrard understands all about Defoe. The pair are in conversation on a new contract to the striker.
Hes explained to me he is thrilled with how I am playing but not only that, together with how I am around the place with all the younger lads, supporting everybody, says Defoe. It was nice for him to say .
There is no doubt in Defoes mind. His family love life in Glasgow. I want to remain, he states. it is a particular football club you feel it.
However, Defoe is looking well beyond next season. Asked if he could extend his career to his 40s, Defoe says:The way I feel today, readily.
I do everything right [to prepare matches], which is easy for me. My recovery, coaching. All of the things you should do, I really do. I think its displaying in my performances
He has not found working beneath a former team-mate in Gerrard tough defoes capacity is.
If youre a manager you need to become somewhat different, youre the boss, says Defoe. But theres times when he doesnt say anything because he knows me. There is times when he says do you really want a day, a day and break – since he knows I will sayno I want to play . He knows me. He is my ex-team-mate and that he knows I really like scoring goals.
Four wins out of four together with 17 goals scored and only one surrendered on Celtic in the Old Firm derby of the season since their defeat, Rangers wont have desired the break to disrupt their momentum. Gerrard has said its too premature for title talk before faltering last year, following Rangers spent time on leading, also Defoe has cautioned his team-mates to steer clear.
You do not need to boast about being high in the league, theres still quite a way to go, he states. We must honor our neighbours, everybody in the league and then continue what were doing.
When you are raising the trophy at the end then you are able to do everything you need and correctly celebrate.
